Safe motherhood; safe childhood

You know, you are on this site most likely because you want as safe an experience of pregnancy and motherhood as is possible, either for you or your loved one. You also wish for a healthy child at the end of that. A child who will go on to thrive.

                                      The challenge of achieving this for millions of mothers throughout the developing world is beyond what many of us

                                           in the West can even begin to imagine.

 

                                            Pregnancy Bliss, in our own modest way have identified a community where we believe we can be of help in a

                                             very practical way.

                                              Kanyigo is a conglomeration of villages in North Western Tanzania in East Africa, which are typical of many   

                                                                           such villages in this part of the world. It has a Health Centre serving a population of over  

                                                                              30, 000 people.       

                                                                               The health centre is well run, has a working Mother and Child Health (MCH) service but

                                                                                this is severely constrained by the limited resources.

 

                                                              What are we intending to do?

                                                                                In collaboration with the Health Centre administrators, we have agreed to continually    

                                                                                   fund an  improvised ‘Ambulance’ service. No such services have ever existed in this

                                                                                   rural area. The Health Centre has a vehicle, a robust 4-Wheel Drive, and one driver.    

                                                                                   Pregnancy Bliss has agreed to provide funding to help establish ‘Ambulance’ services                       

                                                                                     specifically aimed at Obstetric emergencies as well as emergencies involving

                                                                                     children and the elderly.  This service will remain free at the point of delivery.

 

 

The monthly donated funds will help in:

• Paying the second driver who has been hired
• Buy fuel for the emergencies
• Purchase 2 mobile phones for the drivers (to communicate with patients)
• Maintenance costs for the vehicle

 

 

It has been calculated that, for all this, the monthly recurrent costs will amount to £650 (just over $1000). Quite a modest amount by western standards but sums which are likely to make an immense difference in the lives of many people in the area. We are asking you to donate whatever you are able to afford. It can be £1/$1, £2, £5 or whatever you can spare. As the saying goes, “Every little helps"
